telx closed its anticipated acquisition of Atlanta carrier hotel 56 Marietta from Marietta Street Partners LLC In mid-May. telx, a neutral interconnection company with a meet-me room at 60 Hudson St. in New York City, will own and operate the 160,000 square-foot, 10-story property, which serves approximately 50 carriers and 250 telecom-related companies. Its meet-me room is a 25,000 square-foot neutral interconnection facility. telx’s New York address includes 45,000 square feet.

Volo Communications Inc., a wholesale carrier, has implemented packet voice solutions from Sonus Networks in its IP backbone network. Volo added Sonus’ Open Services Architecture featuring the GSX9000 Open Services Switch, allowing Volo to expand the capacity of its VoIP network. In other news, Volo named John Wind as senior director of marketing. Wind last worked at Epicus Inc., where he was vice president of marketing and strategy.

Through its wholesale agreement with Covad Communications Group Inc., AT&T Corp. has expanded high-speed Internet service in California, bringing to 26 the number of states where the company offers DSL along with a package of local and long-distance services.

Wholesale carrier Level 3 Communications Inc. planned to expand its (3)VoIP Local Inbound service from 73 to at least 300 U.S. markets by the end of June. Level 3 will receive calls originating on the PSTN and convert them for delivery to the customer’s IP address. The expansion allows Level 3 customers to develop and deliver services for their end-users.

Pac-West Telecomm Inc. has launched its Acceleration Marketplace Program (AMP), a fully managed accelerated dial solution for ISPs. AMP was created to provide ISPs with access to additional acceleration solutions that offer a variety of feature sets and capabilities.

Initially, these include AcceleNet, Artera Turbo, Propel Accelerator and SlipStream.

DSL.net Inc. has signed three new contracts, agreeing to be the wholesale supplier for two communications providers, InfoHighway Communications Corp. and Go Remote Internet Communications Inc., formerly GRIC Communications Inc. InfoHighway is an integrated communications provider offering services to small and medium businesses in 12 northeastern states, Washington, D.C., and Texas. Go Remote Internet Communications provides managed remote solutions through a global network that includes about 10,000 Wi-Fi hotspots and hotel Ethernet access points.

Last Mile Connections announced it has received $28 million in additional financing from One Equity Partners (OEP), the private equity arm of Bank One. This is the third round of financing since the company’s founding in November of 2001 and brings total financing to $41 million. The company says the funds will be used for acquisitions, expansion of its platform to enable real-time provisioning of local access connections, a move to a larger headquarters, expansion of its professional staff and executive management team, and sales and marketing initiatives.

eXchange @ 200 Paul, has signed five new customers to its carrier hotel services: IP Networks, Vianet Technologies Inc., WIDE Project, XO Communications Inc. and Yipes Enterprise Services Inc. The company says it houses about 115 colocation customers and 45 telecom and IP service providers, including Global Crossing Ltd., SBC Communications Inc. and Time Warner Telecom. eXchange owns and operates carrier hotels in San Francisco and Santa Clara, Calif.
