AIRMAGNET RELEASES ENTERPRISE 6.0

AirMagnet Inc., which develops WLAN security technologies, has upgraded its AirMagnet Enterprise platform. The latest version, Enterprise 6.0 fully integrates with the Cisco Systems Inc. Wireless LAN Solution Engine (WLSE), enabling Ciscos access points to be used as scanners.

POWERDSINE INTRODUCES 3012 POE MIDSPAN

PowerDsine Ltd., which makes Power over Ethernet (PoE) equipment, has unveiled its 3012 PoE Midspan. The device is designed for the SMB market.

The 3012 PoE Midspans connect between Ethernet switches and WLAN access points, VoIP phones and network security cameras, so users can deploy lower-density installations of these terminals. The new midspan complies with the IEEE 802.3af PoE standard and also supports pre-standard terminals, as well as legacy Ethernet switches.

PowerDsine says its new midspan, like the companys other devices, does not require replacement of the existing Ethernet switch when adding PoE functionality to the network. The 3012 Midspan also can operate with an uninterruptible power supply, distributing power to equipment in case of an outage.

The PowerDsine 3012 PoE Midspan is priced at $519 per unit.

CONVERGED ACCESS ANNOUNCES NEW CCA FAMILY

Converged Access Inc. has announced a new family of converged compression appliances (CCAs). The company makes WAN and application performance-management solutions, and says the new CCAs provide selective compression. This means pre-compressed applications such as VoIP achieve optimal performance and efficiency.

Converged Access says the CCA reduces monthly bandwidth costs by 50 percent or more, while improving compression efficiency by up to 60 percent. The CCA also provides auto-discovery, monitoring and reporting for more than 1,400 applications, enabling out-of-the-box deployment.

The new CCA family comes in four models supporting sites with WAN speeds ranging from 512kbps-100mbps. The series starts at $1,500.

ZULTYS MAKES MOBILE WI-FI PHONE

Equipment-maker Zultys Technologies has released the WIP 2 wireless IP phone, available for sale through the companys VARs.

The WIP 2 acts like a desktop IP phone, but is mobile throughout an enterprise.

The WIP 2 wireless IP phone contains the same features and functionality as the Zultys ZIP 2×2 desktop IP phone, released earlier this year. The WIP 2 is built on open standards and runs on a real-time Linux operating system. The phone is compatible with any IP telephony system using SIP.

The WIP 2 provides two call appearances and supports voice encryption, paging, three-way conferencing, presence, instant messaging and more. The battery handles four hours of continuous talk time and 12 hours of standby time. The phones presence feature indicates whether the user is available, in a meeting, on the phone, or on the move. It also incorporates jitter buffer for speech quality and, in speaker-phone mode, features full duplex acoustic echo cancellation for sound quality.

Users can dial a destination by phone number, SIP address or IP address. A SIP address can be abbreviated, for example to sales. Hot-key dialing lets users review and edit the destination address prior to calling. The phone also has a paging feature that is supported on the MX family of IP PBXs. Using one button on the WIP 2, a user can page a group, emulating push-to-talk capabilities within the enterprise, at construction areas, in medical facilities and more.
