Motorola Completes Symbol Acquisition

Motorola Inc. on Monday completed its $3.9 billion acquisition of Symbol Technologies Inc.

Symbol is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the company and will be the cornerstone of Motorola’s networks and enterprise business.

Motorola will keep Symbol’s Holtsville, N.Y., headquarters, which will become the core of Motorola’s global enterprise mobility business. Sal Iannuzzi, president and CEO of Symbol, will serve as president of the new Motorola enterprise mobility business.

Motorola will merge Symbols assets, expertise, customer and supplier bases, and products under its umbrella. The acquisition also brings an array of new channel partners to the vendor.

The new business will deal in WLAN, field network platforms, bar code scanning, radio frequency identification and network design and management software, including security applications.

The deal was announced on Sept. 19.
