The state of Georgia is investigating Windstream for making false claims about its DSL speeds in the Peach State, according to DSLReports.com.

The site said on Tuesday that the Georgia Governor’s Office of Consumer Protection is looking into whether Windstream’s 6MBps, 12MBps and 24MBps services actually reach those advertised speeds. According to DSLReports, many consumers say they only get about 1MBps.

The investigation comes as Windstream, Comcast, Time Warner Cable and AT&T have lost a bid to convince Georgia lawmakers to ban municipal broadband buildouts.
