Avaya has appointed Greg Pelton, previously with Polycom, Cisco and Nortel Networks, to vice president of technology strategy.

He will play a key role in shaping Avaya’s technology strategy, impacting partners, as the company continues its transformation into a services and cloud-based UC and contact-center provider. He returns to Avaya after previously serving as chief technology officer for the company’s government solutions arm from 2011 to 2014.

Last month, Avaya emerged from chapter 11 bankruptcy as a public company with about $350 million in cash and a little less than half the debt it had when it filed last January.

Pelton most recently was chief technology officer and vice president of infrastructure engineering for Polycom, where he was responsible for the company’s innovation road map as well as leading its collaboration platform and cloud product engineering organizations. Prior to that, he held several senior management positions in technology and engineering at both Cisco and Nortel.

“We are excited to bring back a proven leader like Greg to help us execute our technology road map,” said Nikos Nikolopoulos, Avaya’s senior vice president of corporate strategy, development and marketing. “Greg brings extensive experience in large and complex technology companies undergoing market transitions, and with his prior knowledge of Avaya has already hit the ground running.”
