Ericsson Brings On 900 Nortel Workers in Canada
Now that Ericsson (ERIC) has closed its buyout of Nortel Networks’ wireless assets, it also has hired more workers in Canada than it planned.
Computerworld reported that, as of last Friday, 900 Nortel employees will work for Ericsson Canada. Another 1,600 work for Ericsson in the United States.
The number’s not much, but at least it’s something. Perhaps the news will help assuage concerns that foreign companies buying Nortel properties will mean fewer Canadian jobs. With any luck, Ericsson is setting the precedent for a new and positive trend.
