EarthLink Inc. on Tuesday introduced its new FlexCloud Hosting service, which helps businesses create secure IT environments to optimize server usage.

EarthLink’s cloud-solutions engineers provide assessments that help clients calculate their baseline computing capacity, and determine when to burst that capacity to accommodate demand. After that, organizations may track and manage their computing consumption across business units and scale up or down as needed; pooling resources reduces the cost of server sprawl, EarthLink said. The approach further cuts down on oversight complications because while different divisions may manage their applications through one portal, IT teams maintain total control through the administrator portal.

FlexCloud Hosting comes with other capabilities as well. For example, it provides full weekly backups and daily incremental backups to protect data. There’s also a data-center firewall that provides intrusion prevention this is especially important for industries subject to compliance reporting. Next, users can create both public and private virtual environments for physical and logical separation with private MPLS or VPN architecture. EarthLink also offers managed services to help with routine management and maintenance.

FlexCloud Hosting’s design includes automatic server failover, high-availability SAN storage and hosting in SSAE 16 SOC2 certified data centers. It’s built on Virtustream XStream and Cisco products.
