IP UNITY UPGRADES AUDIO, WEB
CONFERENCING PLATFORM

IP Unity Corp. announces the release
of IP Unity Conferencing 2.0 with advanced features that include integration
with Microsoft Corp.’s Outlook application, conference recording/playback
capabilities and outcall/invite functionality.

IP Unity Conferencing Service offers
a set of audio- and Web-conferencing features — available for both
reservation-based and on-demand conferences. Powered by IP Unity’s Harmony6000
media server platform, phone calls from any network type can be bridged,
directly mixing wireless, wireline and IP calls.

Application resources can be
partitioned to ensure service level agreements are met and voice and Web
interfaces can easily be custom branded — enabling carriers or service
providers the flexibility to meet customer expectations and rapidly generate new
revenue streams from either a legacy or a next-generation network.

The new features of this release
make it easier for users to schedule and conduct audio and/or Web-based
meetings, says the company.

Specific updates to version 2.0 of
the Conferencing Services application include the following:

  • Real-time outcall and invite
    functionality

  • Microsoft Outlook calendar
    integration

  • Complete Outlook address book
    integration

  • Slide sharing

  • Recording and playback

IP Unity Conferencing 2.0 is a tool
for carriers, service providers and large enterprises, offering integrated audio
and Web-based conferencing. The standard interfaces are designed to be easily
branded and bundled with existing communication packages offered by a carrier.
It can be deployed in TDM or packet-based networks and is sold on a per-port
basis, keeping entry costs low.

RADVISION ADDS TO NETWORK
APPLIANCE LINE

RADVISION Ltd. announces two new
product categories in the INVISION 100 family of video conferencing network
appliances are available.

The INVISION 100/M is a
plug-and-play device that features an integrated video network management
solution as well as multipoint conferencing functionality without the added
expense of ISDN interfaces. The INVISION 100/M also is available with an
optional video-processing card (INVISION 100/Mv), which delivers enhanced video
functionality such as rate matching, extended continuous presence modes, screen
layouts of up to nine video users, and user-specific on-the-fly video mode
control.

The INVISION 100/M and 100/Mv are
for enterprises that run video-conferencing sessions over a LAN and have a data
connection into the public IP network, and so do not need ISDN interworking.
These products also are ideal for a remote office on a distributed corporate
WAN, where all video traffic between offices runs over an IP VPN.

The INVISION 100/G1p (1 PRI ISDN
port) and INVISION 100/G4b (4 BRI ISDN ports) deliver ISDN-IP bridging and
integrated video call-management functionality without the added expense of
multipoint conferencing functionality. These devices are designed for a
distributed network with an existing MCU or for those enterprises that primarily
use point-to-point video.

MARCONI ENHANCES VIRTUAL PRESENCE
SYSTEM

Marconi Corp. plc announces product
enhancements to its ViPr Virtual Presence System, which merges video
conferencing and IP-based voice services to deliver DVD-quality video and CD
sound on a platform optimized for point-to-multipoint desktop communications.

The ViPr Series II enhancements
include several SIP-based gateways to simplify ViPr’s integration with legacy
telephone networks and WANs. They also include a new design, which integrates
speakers with the display panel and locates the electronics compactly behind the
display. ViPr Series II also adds a new camera with advanced capabilities,
including digital encoding, 3:1 zoom, tilt, swivel and fixed focus.

Marconi also introduces an expanded
set of infrastructure components to go with the existing ViPr SIP Platform and
ViPr Video Server. For example, the Unicast Audio Mixer for audio mixing for SIP
end points that do not have ViPr’s built-in mixing capability. This mixer allows
SIP phones, ordinary telephones and associated PBXs to participate in ViPr
calls. The InterMedia Gateways allow LAN-to-WAN connectivity between networks
with different topologies such as an Ethernet LAN connection to an ATM WAN.
Finally, the ViPr SIP platform provides call control for up to 100 ViPr
terminals and provides continuity of call control in the event of a failure of
the active ViPr SIP Platform.

INFO DIRECTIONS LINKS SYSTEMS
WITH OSS CLEARINGHOUSE

Info Directions announced that it
will provide clients using its CostGuard OSS/BSS system with a seamless,
automated provisioning solution for national carriers through NeuStar’s
LSRexpress clearinghouse service.

"Our ability to manage
pre-order and local service requests in an automated manner is an important
value-add for our clients," said Donald Culeton, president of Info
Directions. "The combination of manual order processing and maintaining
Local Service Ordering Guidelines (LSOG) with one or more carriers can be
overwhelming — and costly — for service providers. The interface between
CostGuard’s workflow management component and NeuStar’s LSRexpress solution
eliminates that responsibility for our clients and improves the speed and
efficiency of the provisioning process."
