Citynet Expands Footprint, Goes Rural With GigE

Known for its attention to underserved markets, Citynet (Booth 1423), has expanded its product offerings of gigabit Ethernet and other services to many new Tier 2 and Tier 3 COs in Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia.

In the past year, Citynet has made significant capital investments in expanding its network to meet the specific needs of its customers. The companys most recent network expansion enables it to offer service to many new COs in Ohio including Lima, Mansfield, Marion, Portsmouth, Wooster, and Youngstown and West Virginia including Beckley, Clarksburg, Huntington, Morgantown, Parkersburg, and Wheeling.

The addition of these COs will help Citynets customers eliminate the ILECs inter-LATA mileage fees. Michael Friloux, COO for Citynet said, This is just one more example of Citynets focus on customized problem-solving to help our customers overcome their most critical bandwidth challenges.

Citynets newest product offering is an optical Ethernet-over-SONET product, leveraging the advantages of SONET, optical and DWDM technologies, such as fast provisioning times, low latency and highly reliable services. Aimed to support cable and wireless carriers, Citynets first rollout will occur first quarter of 2006. The service is available at both GigE and FastE in increments of 50mbps.

Our Ethernet product is a direct response to our customers needs, Friloux said. In many of the markets we serve, there is no one providing carrier-grade Ethernet service today. Our goal is to provide the high-capacity broadband services that our customers require.

According to Citynet, Ethernet provides an easy solution for customers through a widely available and simpler interface. Bringing Ethernet into the underserved markets, such as Wheeling, W.Va., or Johnstown, Pa., offers budget-minded carriers a cost-effective alternative to pricier solutions.
