CompTel Honors Hollings, Bliley
The Competitive Telecommunications Association
(CompTel) has designated Sen. Ernest “Fritz” Hollings (D-S.C.) and Rep. Tom J.
Bliley, Jr. (R-Va.) “Champions of Competition.”
CompTel (www.comptel.org)
presented the congressmen its first of what is expected to become an annual honor to recognize “outstanding contributions that have helped build or redefine competition in the telecommunications industry.”
The awards were presented during the organization’s January CEO summit. While Hollings and Bliley are the first to be honored, CompTel said future awards could go to any individuals from the business, political or technology fields.
“Senator Hollings and Congressman Bliley are models of courage and commitment to a fundamental belief in fair competition,” CompTel President H. Russell Frisby said in presenting the awards. “Both gentlemen have demonstrated vision and the strong leadership necessary for guaranteeing that competition continues to be the driving force behind the evolution of our industry.”
