More than a dozen telecommunications company have formed the National Convergence Alliance
(www.convergencealliance.com), an organization whose mission is to define, promote and educate about convergence in the communications industry.
“Industry leaders have been looking for a means of bringing together the elements of convergence clearly and understandably,” says Don Lawrence, NCA’s president. “NCA has been organized over the past few months as the rallying point for convergence technologies. Our founding members have formulated a program which will accelerate the growth of the convergence market.”
Among NCA’s founders are I-Link Inc.
(www.i-link.com), an IP telephony provider; Log On America Inc.
(www.loa.com), a CLEC and ISP operating in the Northeast; MCK Communications Inc.
(www.mck.com), a Needham, Mass.-based manufacturer of remote voice products; Mitel Communications Systems, a division of Canada-based Mitel Corp.
(www.mitel.com) that helps develop and provide IP telephony solutions; and Quantum Bridge Communications Inc.
(www.quantumbridge.com), a North Andover, Mass.-headquartered provider of Optical Access Networking equipment.
The NCA’s inaugural governing board was drawn from among the founding members, and future boards will be elected by member organizations. The NCA, headquartered in Westford, Mass., is open to vendors of communications equipment, communications service providers and others in the industry.
