ADDS, MOVES & CHANGES
Paul Vixie, founder of neutral Internet exchange, Paix.net Inc. (www.paix.
net), has been appointed its president.
A 20-year industry veteran, Vixie will lead the company’s international
expansion and manage all operations, including sales, engineering and service.
PAIX.net is a subsidiary of Metromedia Fiber Network Inc. (www.mmfn.com),
and operates as a separate business unit with its own management and technical
advisory team. Vixie was formally the CTO of MFN.
"Paul was a driving force behind the creation of the Internet, and he
envisioned PAIX.net as a neutral Internet exchange in a landscape that saw
increasing consolidation of Internet exchanges under telecommunications
carriers," said Nick Tanzi, president and COO of MFN.
AT&T Corp. (www.att.com) has
appointed Betsy J. Bernard president and CEO of AT&T Consumer.
The company said it led an extensive search to fill the highest post in the
consumer division, which served more than 60 million customers and generated
$18.9 billion in revenue last year.
Bernard most recently led the consumer and small business unit at Qwest
Communications International Inc. (www.qwest.com).
At US West, where she oversaw all retail markets–including consumer, business,
and government accounts–Bernard was the highest-ranking female executive in any
former RBOC, AT&T said.
Before joining US West, Bernard was president and CEO of a telecom startup,
the Avirnex Communications Group, and president and CEO of Pacific Bell (www.pacbell.com),
the long-distance division of Pacific Telesis Group (www.pacbell.com).
She also worked at AT&T for 18 years, holding executive-level positions
in marketing, sales, product management, and customer service.
