Brazilian Providers Form VoIP Federation

Brazilian voice service providers Tellfree, iVoz.net, GlobalNova, Conceito Telecom and Easytone intend to establish a VoIP Peering Federation for VoIP service providers in their country.

The companies will be founding members.

The Brazilian VoIP Peering Federation will be developed and managed by XConnect, a neutral provider of VoIP peering services and operator of the XConnect Global Alliance. Terremark do Brasil Ltd., a provider of interconnectivity solutions in Brazil and wholly owned subsidiary of Terremark Worldwide Inc., will provide Layer 2 private Ethernet connectivity and colocation services to the new federation.

The Brazilian VoIP Peering Federation is the first of its kind in South America and only the second national federation worldwide. The other was formed in the Netherlands last year.

The Brazilian VoIP Peering Federation will enable its members to exchange VoIP traffic between their subscribers directly over IP networks. The Brazilian federation also will enable multimedia IP communications services, such as video and presence, to be delivered across all member service providers.
