Oracle Unveils Backup Appliance for Oracle Engineered Systems

Oracle, a company that develops hardware and software to work together in the cloud and in your data center, announced the Sun ZFS Backup Appliance, which is an integrated, high performance backup solution for Oracle engineered systems. Oracle Exadata Database Machine, Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud and Oracle SPARC SuperCluster T4-4 are all supported systems.

Oracle's latest addition delivers up to 20 terabytes per hour full backup and up to 9.4 terabytes per hour full restore. No additional host-side software is required for Oracle's Sun ZFS Backup Appliance's backup. Also, Sun ZFS Backup Appliance can decrease recovery time by up to 4x, while offering up to 3.9x lower total cost of ownership (TCO) over a three year period.

Oracle's Sun ZFS Backup Appliance provides data protection as well. The Sun ZFS Backup Appliance helps reduce the risk of failed restores. With Oracle's Recovery Manager (RMAN) direct connection via TCP/IP over InfiniBand, additional servers and third-party backup software can be eliminated. Oracle-recommended RMAN full and incremental backup procedures are promoted through the appliance.
