Zetta.net: Most IT Pros Are Using DR Solutions
New research from Zetta.net showed that the demand for cloud-based backup and disaster recovery (BDR) solutions from managed service providers (MSPs) could increase soon.
Zetta.net’s The State of Backup Survey of 425 IT professionals revealed nearly 97 percent of respondents said they currently are using some form of DR. Additionally, 31 percent said they plan to leverage a new DR method in the future, and more than half of these respondents intend to use cloud-based DR solutions.
Other survey results included the following:
- 79 percent of respondents said they are using a combination of file, application and server image backups, and 52 percent are using all three backup types.
- Of those organizations planning to add a new backup type in the future, 76 percent said they will add server image backups.
- 70 percent said they use one of four DR solutions: on-premise DR, physical offsite DR (such as tape), on-premise plus cloud DR or on-premise plus physical offsite DR.
- The majority of respondents had multiple operating systems to protect. Windows was the most common OS; 95 percent said they have Windows in their environment, and 63 percent said they use more than one OS.
- 53 percent said less than 70 percent of their environment is virtualized.
“Data has become incredibly valuable to organizations of all sizes, and likewise, losing access to that data can be crippling,” Art Ledbetter, Zetta.net’s director of channels, told MSPmentor. “For MSPs in particular, cloud DR enables them to offer reliable data protection services for minimal capital and operational cost, increasing efficiency and profitability.”
Interest in cloud-based BDR solutions is rising. However, a Nov. 2014 survey from Axcient and Dimensional Research also revealed the majority of IT pros have yet to leverage these options.
The survey of 453 IT pros showed that 89 percent of respondents said they see value in cloud-based BDR solutions, but only one-third were using them.
