SMC Networks Launching Managed Services Platform
SMC Networks plans to launch a managed services platform in late 2008, enabling VARs and MSPs to remotely monitor networks and minimize system downtime, according to an SMC press release.
It’s good to see networking companies getting into the managed services game. But I need to play devil’s advocate: I hope the SMC platform is holistic, and allows MSPs to manage a range of network devices — not just SMC hardware.
I’ve pinged SMC for more information about their strategy. As soon as I have the details I’ll share them with MSPmentor readers.
I think it monitors ARCNET devices only 😉
Sorry, it’s been a long week…
Ralph: We enjoy comic relief around here from time to time, but we hope SMC Networks doesn’t take offense. (Nor do we endorse your view.)
We do respect the right to post comments. We have a policy not to take down comments unless they contain offensive language, etc. So, your comment lives on. But it sounds like SMC Networks plans to brief me next week on the strategy. I’ll be sure to report back with more perspective.
And yes, it was a long — but exciting — week.
Joe amp; SMC,
Sorry, I meant no offense! I spent many a year championing SMC products. The comment certainly shows my age rather than my wisdom! I await further news from SMC.
Thanks!
Ralph: No need to apologize. The IT market can be dry and devoid of humor. We welcome ALL comments on this site — and ARCNET references earn bonus points — as long as the language isn’t offensive.
I’m speaking with SMC Networks on Wednesday (Nov. 12) and I’ll report back with more info.
