LabTech and Scorpion: RMM Meets Authentication
LabTech Software, the remote monitoring and management (RMM) software specialist, is working more closely with Scorpion Software. The move is noteworthy for two reasons: Scorpion’s software allows MSPs to more effectively protect small business networks. Plus, Scorpion also has a close working relationship with Kaseya. Not by coincidence, competition between LabTech and Kaseya seems to have escalated in recent months. Here’s some more background.
First, the news: LabTech has announced the launch of a Scorpion Software-developed AuthAnvil Management Pack, a suite of management scripts to ease automation and deployment of AuthAnvil log-on authentication agents.
The AuthAnvil Management Pack for LabTech is designed to give administrators leveraging the login protection agent the ability to simply and automatically deliver agent updates, setting changes, and password revisions with the push of a button, according to LabTech’s press release.
The management pack also includes “recommendations for best practices,” the company says, advising administrators on specific behaviors, failed logons, attempted bypasses, and attempted overrides.
Now, some perspective: Scorpion was a vocal partner during the Kaseya Connect User Conference 2010. At that conference, Scorpion described how the company integrated with Kaseya’s recently launched Kaseya 2 platform. Like many security-related software companies, Scorpion seems to be integrating with a range of MSP tools and dashboards.
LabTech was a relatively quiet RMM software developer — that is, until ConnectWise Capital invested in LabTech in early 2010. Since that time, LabTech has announced a range of new integration partners. LabTech also plans to host a user conference called LabTech Automation Nation (Nov. 4, Orlando). The event will piggyback the ConnectWise IT Nation conference (Nov. 4-6, Orlando).
