HEROware President Rob Ryan Exits, Preps Next Move

HEROware President Rob Ryan has exited the business continuity, backup and disaster recovery company. It sounds like Ryan will be staying in the IT industry while also pursuing some life-work balance. MSPmentor is checking in with HEROware COO Bob Erickson to see if there are plans to replace Ryan.

In an email conversation with MSPmentor, Ryan praised the HEROware team for winning key business in recent years vs. larger rivals. He also believes the company maintains a pricing and technology advantage over rivals. Without getting too specific, Ryan said a new opportunity emerged that was too good to pass up. His next move will involve some of “the smartest, heavily resourced, best people I know”  who will “chase some big ambitious goals.”

Meanwhile, we’re also curious to see where HEROware heads next. The company in 2011 offered special MSP incentives to help empower partners during that year’s rough economy. The company has also built relationships with such technology companies as Dell, Kaseya and Vembu.

Still, I confess: I don’t know how HEROware is performing right now but i’ll be sure to ask COO Bob Erickson for an update. No doubt the competition remains intense. Cloud backup and BDR players such as Axcient, Datto and Intronis are venture-backed. And a lengthy list of rivals have boot-strapped their businesses while working closely with MSPs.

More updates when we have info to share…
