D-Link Launches New IPv6-Ready SmartPro Switches

The VAR Guy can’t help but notice how focused on the SMB space D-Link has become. Its latest offering, the DSG-1500 series of SmartPro switches, is no exception. Regardless of whether you’re a partner or a customer, these new switches are worth looking at, thanks to their affordable price tag and rich feature set. Read on for the details …

The DGS-1500 SmartPro switches are D-Link’s price-friendly SMB-ready switches, aimed at burgeoning businesses and the educational market. According to D-Link, the DGS-1500 series offers features traditional SMB switches don’t, such as Layer 3 Ethernet capabilities for static routing, vLAN support, virtualized switch stacking, usage-aware power-over-Ethernet and an essentials-based centralized management console. But the real crown jewel of D-Link’s new switch is the IPv4/v6 “dual stack,” which means this switch comes equipped with capabilities that can ease the migration to IPv6.

The DSG-1500 series will start at $399 up to $1,139, making it a somewhat-easy sell for partners and a cost-savings buy for customers. Partners looking to add the DSG-1500 series to their portfolio will have to wait just a little while longer — the units will be available in April 2012 from D-Link’s list of usual distributors and resellers.

The VAR Guy thinks D-Link has the right idea by offering the SMB market IPv6-ready tools. Although the IPv6 transition is well on its way, it’s clearly an underrated (and soon to be necessary) selling point that VARs can cash in on.

SMB-focused VARS also may want to check out D-Link’s other moves, especially its VIP Partner Program and power-conscious SMB networking portfolio.
