Insight Venture Partners Managing Director Mike Triplett says firm has no plan to bundle acquisitions up for a sell down the road
Insight Venture Partners Managing Director Mike Triplett says firm has no plan to bundle acquisitions up for a sell down the road.

Insight Venture Partners has cemented its name in the channel over the past year by taking a major stake in Kaseya, and making primary investments in both Unitrends and PHD Virtual Technologies. So that left us wondering, what else does the firm have in store for the channel?

To help solve this question, we reached out to Insight Venture Partners Managing Director Mike Triplett for answers. He responded, and provided us with an exclusive interview on recent acquisitions.

What do the acquisitions have in common and why did they appeal to Insight Venture Partners?

“All of these companies are growing, providing valuable infrastructure and IT management software to companies,” Triplett said, adding that each company also caters to both small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and enterprises.

“They fit Insight’s profile of working with companies that build world-class product with large global market opportunities,” he said.

While Insight has invested in channel-based vendors over the past year, it does not mean the firm is primarily targeting the channel. “Insight invests in companies that sell either directly or via the channel,” Triplett said.

He added: “We are believers in investing in innovative technology firms that develop and bring to market software and appliances that enable IT organizations to build efficient physical and virtual infrastructure in order to support their company’s business objectives.”

Some channel partners have thrown around the idea that Insight may be bundling these acquisitions for a large sell in the future, but Triplett said the company has “no plans to do this.”

As for future acquisitions, he mentioned, “We are constantly evaluating companies that fit our profile.”

“Some of these may sell via the channel but this is incidental to our primary goal of finding, working with, and helping to grow strong infrastructure software companies,” Triplett said.

Trilett noted that some of Insight’s investments have included infrastructure companies such as Solarwinds, Quest, GFI and Parallels, as well as recent investments, including New Relic, Cherwell Software and BMC.
