Infor is tackling the large automotive industry vertical and hoping to get more companies in the sector on board with cloud computing. Infor launched CloudSuite Automotive, an extension of its recently announced CloudSuite offering for Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Like its non-verticial-specific version, CloudSuite Automotive is available via AWS. And according to Infor, the cloud solution was designed with the specific needs of the automotive sector in mind.

"With more than 80 percent of the world's largest automotive suppliers running Infor applications, we've seen first-hand the interest from the industry to move to the cloud to take advantage of its clear benefits, like easier maintenance and lower TCO, that aren't necessarily offered with on-premise applications," said John Bermudez, vice president of Product Management at Infor, in a prepared statement. "Infor CloudSuite gives customers an opportunity to increase their return on investment and join the cloud movement, without sacrificing any of the industry-specific functionality delivered by Infor's products."

Infor noted in its announcement that CloudSuite Automotive provides customers with "a greater range of access" when using core industry applications. Using the cloud offering, OEMs and top-tier suppliers can electronically share data such as demand, supply and delivery information. The result? Faster delivery times and increased responsiveness.

The cloud product provides customers with industry-specific analytics.

"Infor's strategy to build a complete CloudSuite for the automotive industry is spot on as it delivers the same features in the cloud as the on-premise offering, addresses this industry's implementation downtime concerns, provides additional options for customers, and helps modernize customers, especially current Infor customers with their Upgrade X program," said Dick Slansky, senior analyst at ARC Advisory Group, in a prepared statement.
