Former IBM Executive Leads Kaseya Australia

Over the past two or three years, most of the major managed services software providers have made the leap from North America to Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). But if you take a closer look at the story, Kaseya was one of the companies that enjoyed first-mover advantage in the ANZ market, thanks to executives like Martin Ashby and Tim Dickinson. Now, IBM veteran Dermot McCann is joining the Kaseya team to drive further expansion in ANZ.

Dermot recently joined Kaseya as managing director for Australia and New Zealand. He previously worked for IBM Australia, where he oversaw client management in the media and entertainment industry. Earlier, he led IBM’s Security business unit — Internet Security Systems — according to Kaseya.

Dermot reports to Ashby, senior VP APAC (Asia Pacific) at Kaseya. Ashy is another international business veteran, who has lived in Singapore and built successful software operations across Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Also, Tim Dickinson now focuses on Southeast Asia business expansion, focusing on such areas as Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, according to Ashby.

The Back Story

As I mentioned, plenty of North American managed services software companies have expanded into Australia over the past two or three years. But Kaseya has one of the deeper international management benches in the industry. The company tends to place senior executives in specific regions — feet on the street — rather than depending on heavy business travel from the U.S. and Canada to international markets.

Disclosure: I spoke at an Australia managed services event series in October 2008, which was sponsored by Kaseya and Intel. I got to know Ashby and Dickinson pretty well during the event series. At the time, it seemed like only Kaseya and N-able were competing fiercely in the Australia market. New software companies have since moved into the space. But generally speaking, it sounds like Kaseya continues to see international growth.
