Distribution Watch: Tech Data, Avnet, ScanSource

Holy Guacamole Batman! It’s time for Distribution Watch, your weekly dose of byte-sized news from the tech channel. This week brings exciting news from Tech Data (TECD), Avnet (AVT) and ScanSource. And we’re off!

Tech Data: The global distributor added another accolade to its mantle after being named one of Fortune's World’s Most Admired Companies, ranking in fourth in the magazine’s Wholesalers: Electronics and Office Equipment category. (Ranking Nos. 1-3, respectively, were Arrow Electronics, Avnet and Ingram Micro.)

The company has consistently placed on Fortune’s list for the fifth year in a row. Tech Data is currently ranked as number 119 on Fortune 500.

Avnet: Our friends from Phoenix pulled back the curtain on two of its previously announced healthcare modules this week at the HIMSS Annual Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, which will be available to its North American partners.

According to the distributor, the Readmissions and Population Health Management modules are designed “to assist healthcare providers by raising the quality of care, improving the coordination of care and extending this approach over a long period of time.”

The Readmissions module is designed to allow healthcare workers to analyze data to identify trends that lead to patient readmissions and will identify potential risk factors during patient visits. The Population Health Management Module, meanwhile, will aid in the categorization of patient populations based on demographic information to assist healthcare professionals to manage chronic conditions.

"These products target hot-point issues that hospital decision makers are dealing with today," said Patrick Stewart, vice president and general manager of IT Solutions for Avnet Services in the Americas.

While the Readmissions module is available immediately, Avnet says that the Population Health Management module will be available sometime in Q2 2014.

ScanSource: ScanSource Catalyst has been honored by business communications provider Avaya for Excellence in Education Services. The distributor took home the awards for Highest Student Satisfaction and Highest Response Rate in North America based on recent customer survey results.

The awards were given to ScanSource in recognition of the company’s continued education services provided through ScanSource Services Group, according to Avaya.

“In addition to delivering the industry’s leading products, we are also committed to providing the services and support that resellers need to be successful. Education and training are essential to the success of our partners, and we appreciate Avaya and resellers recognizing us as a top performer,” said Mike Burns, president, ScanSource Services Group.

That’s all for this week, friends. Come back next time, same Bat-time, same Bat-channel, err, URL, for more exciting news from Distribution Watch!
