Distribution Watch: Ingram Micro, D&H Distributing

If it's Friday it must be time for Distribution Watch, our far-from-complete listing of what's going on in the distribution space. This week we've got news from Ingram Micro (NYSE: IM) and D&H Distributing, so pay attention.

Ingram Micro: Unified security monitoring vendor Tenable Network Security has inked a distribution alliance with Ingram Micro, under which Ingram Micro will offer Tenable’s Nessus family of vulnerability products and services to its U.S. reseller base.

Tenable’s Nessus Vulnerability Scanner features a streamlined startup process, rapid policy creation, efficiency and fully customizable reports, according to the company. Tenable’s online training and certification provide security professionals a comprehensive education on the latest tools and techniques to maximize the value of their investment.

“Tenable’s Nessus portfolio is trusted by organizations with the most stringent security needs, including the U.S. Department of Defense,” said Eric Kohl, senior director, Advanced Technology Division, Ingram Micro U.S.  “Vulnerability management is a high-margin opportunity for our channel partners and we’re delighted to include Tenable within our growing security portfolio.”

D&H Distributing: The distributor of business and consumer technology has introduced “What’s Trending,” an online tool that lists the most frequently viewed items on dandh.com, updated several times daily. Resellers can now see a roster of hot products in different markets at a glance. What’s Trending delivers insights into shopping trends so resellers can make this information part of an educated purchasing decision, according to the company.

The What’s Trending list can be viewed on the company's search results page as well as the dedicated What’s Trending page, which can be accessed through the left-hand menu on D&H's log-in home page. The list itemizes products according to four market divisions:  computer products, consumer electronics, video gaming and education. Results in each market division can be further refined to identify hot items in sub-categories. Listings include product information and pricing for each item.

“We’re enthusiastic about the ability to deliver valuable market metrics through the ‘What’s Trending’ list. It will be exciting to see how trends morph and advance on a daily, or even an hourly, schedule,” said Jeff Davis, senior vice president of sales at D&H. “We’ve made use of purchasing data internally for many years to determine what categories contribute to our growth. Now we’re turning shopping information over to our customers, providing ongoing visibility into the market. These statistics will get resellers thinking about how various trends are relevant to their customers’ infrastructures.”

And that's this week's Distribution Watch. Stop back next week to see what we're watching. Until then, stay alert and stay safe.
