China: 16 Percent of VARs Offer Managed Security Services

The managed services wave has reached China, where 16 percent of VARs now offer managed security services to their customers, according to research from AMI Partners. But that’s not all. Several other North American IT trends are taking hold in China. Here’s a look.

According to AMI Partners:

  • Managed desktop and managed network services also are coming on strong.

  • China’s solutions providers are likely to gravitate toward more whitebox PCs — a trend that actually surprised me, since I thought Lenovo, Dell and HP would be gaining marketshare in China’s channel.

  • China’s VARs are also offering more open source solutions and services. Which ones? Our own Open Source 50 report provides clues about open source in the global IT channel.

I haven’t heard much about MSP software companies pushing into China. But the trend is inevitable. Most of the major MSP software developers have focused recent efforts on Australia and New Zealand — which provides a regional springboard into Asia.
