Security-as-a-service (SECaaS) company Alert Logic announced it has acquired Critical Watch, a Dallas-based security analytics and vulnerability management platform provider. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Alert Logic said it plans to integrate Critical Watch’s vulnerability and configuration scanning, security analytics and vulnerability research capabilities into its portfolio.

“While Alert Logic has delivered vulnerability assessment and security analytics services for over 10 years, the acquisition will enable us to scale faster and meet the demands of our rapidly growing customer base by adding a team with many years of expertise in vulnerability management as well as a strong technology base,” Alert Logic Chief Strategy Officer Misha Govshteyn told MSPmentor.

Govshteyn said Critical Watch’s technologies will be integrated into Alert Logic Cloud Defender and the Alert Logic ActiveAnalytics Platform.

Alert Logic CEO Gray Hall added that he believes Critical Watch will help his company better deliver “outcome-focused security” to its customers.

Vulnerability assessment and security analytics technologies are critical for Alert Logic to achieve its long-term vision, according to Critical Watch.

And as a result, additional resources will be used to improve Critical Watch’s scanning products.

“Like Alert Logic, Critical Watch products were built to realize an ambitious vision of security intelligence and we’re thrilled to team with one of the fastest-growing cloud security providers today to provide customers with a more secure cloud computing environment,” Critical Watch CEO Eva Bunker said in a prepared statement.

Critical Watch also said it expects very few changes to its FusionVM vulnerability management and compliance solution and Active Countermeasure Intelligence (ACI) risk management platform beyond minor branding and cosmetic changes.

Govshteyn pointed out that Alert Logic is focused on delivering SECaaS across cloud, on-premises and hybrid IT environments, and while his company is not targeting any specific acquisitions at this time, it is evaluating the following sectors:

  • Behavior anomaly

  • Malware detection

  • Security analytics

  • Threat intelligence

  • Web application security

“While the computing, storage and IT management industries have become cloud-enabled and undertaken a dramatic transformation, the security industry has not kept pace and the traditional security tools we use today don’t adequately adapt to meet the needs of cloud-enabled enterprises,” he said. “Alert Logic is reinventing several classes of security products for the cloud age; the Critical Watch acquisition provides a key set of technologies that will help us launch the next generation of cloud security products.”
