Malware can be a serious problem for managed service providers (MSPs) and their customers. Just take a look at some of the recent research.

McAfee Labs researchers, for example, said they expected mobile malware to drive growth “in both technical innovation and the volume of attacks in overall malware in 2014.”

Amit Klein, chief technology officer at IBM (IBM) company Trusteer, also noted malware is now “almost a commodity,” and as a result, cyber criminals can quickly launch targeted attacks against MSPs.

“Malware is still the most dangerous threat to enterprises, end users and financial institutions. Its success has spawned improved detection and prevention technologies that continue to threaten malware’s existence,” Klein wrote in a blog post. “This has forced cyber criminals to evolve their own technologies in order to stay ahead of security vendors.”
