AT&T and Verizon both flipped the switch on the new portions of their 5G networks, but with a caveat.
The carriers launched 5G services that utilize “C-band” spectrum. This type of midband spectrum will improve their network coverage and open up more business use cases.
However, the Federal Aviation Administration, along with major airline executives and other federal authorities, called upon AT&T and Verizon to delay the launch of their networks in locations close to airports, due to interference C-band spectrum was causing with airplane instruments. As a result, Verizon and AT&T ended up delaying their rollouts in several locations.
