ZyXEL Communications revealed the specs on its new series of high-performance unified threat management (UTM) systems June 11, bringing seven new UTMs to market for its SMB and retail customers. ZyXEL’s Advanced Series was designed specifically for its small and midsized business customers, while the Performance Series features additional integrated security solutions for remote offices and retail locations.
“ZyXEL’s new UTM line has tackled two major issues that SMBs are facing with security solutions: maintaining high system throughput, even with security services turned on, and streamlining systems management with a simplified user interface,” said Steven Joe, executive vice president for Channel Business for Americas at ZyXEL, in a prepared statement. “The new UTMs offer huge performance benefits, along with an innovative, integrated management interface that simplifies security provisioning for SMBs and solution providers.”
Each of ZyXEL’s new UTMs features anti-malware software from technology partners including Kaspersky Labs, in addition to granular social networking control and next-gen application intelligence. ZyXEL has equipped the new devices with multi-core processors for Gigabit throughput, to handle the stresses of high-bandwidth applications on customer infrastructures.
As a way of making device management easier for SMB users, ZyXEL focused on redesigning the UTM’s management portal to have security policies and information featured in a single location. The company’s USG line features an exclusive single point of control for firewall, IDP, antivirus, content filtering and application control, allowing IT admins to set consistent policies for all of their user groups. Admins also can easily identify, categorize and control more than 3,000 web applications and behaviors to boost productivity and control bandwidth usage, according to the press release.
Each of ZyXEL’s new UTM models for small businesses are available now, with MSRPs ranging from $320 to $2,350, depending on the specific device and bundling. In May, the company also announced the general availability of its new NXC5500 WLAN controller and the accompanying NWA5301NJ wall plate unified access point for its SMB partners. In March, ZyXEL released a new line of web-managed, smart Ethernet switches available through its channel partner ecosystem.
