The 20-year-old son of Kasperky Lab founder Eugene Kaspersky is safe after being rescued from a kidnapping attempt in Moscow last week.
Kasperky Labs issued the following statement April 24 regarding the rescue of Ivan Kaspersky:
Kaspersky Lab confirms that an operation to free Ivan Kaspersky was carried out successfully by the Federal Security Service (FSB), the Criminal Investigation Department of the Moscow Police and Kaspersky Lab’s own security personnel. Ivan is alive and well and is currently located at a safe location. No ransom was paid during the rescue operation. Eugene Kaspersky and Natalya Kaspersky are currently unavailable for comment.
Ivan Kaspersky was abducted April 19 while on his way to work, and kidnappers demanded a €3 million ransom. According to the BBC, undercover Russian police officers acted as middlemen responsible for delivering the ransom.
Five people were arrested during the rescue operation, one of whom is a former convict and believed to be the leader of the group.
