Data protections solutions provider STORServer is looking to win over Dell customers jaded by the recent change in relationship with CommVault (CVLT) with three new offers to evaluate and upgrade their current storage systems. Beginning this week, CommVault-Dell appliance customers can receive free evaluations and discounted upgrade offers as a way of wooing them to switch over to STORServer technology.

Current CommVault-Dell appliance customers are eligible to receive about $1,750 in evaluation services free of charge as part of the promotion, according to STORServer. The company is providing a 50 percent discount on its onsite or remote health checks for Dell systems, as well as a free remote solution review and inventory of a company’s current system. Customers who purchase a new STORServer CommVault appliance will also be eligible for a free upgrade from CommVault Simpana 8 or 9 to Simpana 10.

“STORServer is a one-stop shop for all levels and capabilities of data protection appliances,” said John Pearring, vice president of STORServer, in a prepared statement. “We integrate hardware, software and support into an automated purpose built backup appliance and want to assist Dell appliance customers who are likely using out-of-date hardware and software. Most CommVault customers are eager to update to Simpana 10, which encourages upgrading to new cost-effective and high performance hardware capabilities. We’re available to help CommVault users with older versions of Simpana to determine if it’s time to consider an updated backup appliance solution.”

While Dell and CommVault still remain active partners, Dell’s recent acquisitions of AppAssure and Quest Software means Dell no longer will be selling backup appliances powered by CommVault Simpana after the third quarter of this year.

STORServer and CommVault originally partnered late last year to offer five appliance models in the CommVault Simpana line, including the BA640, BA641 and EBA802. Each STORServer appliance is powered by CommVault Simpana and IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, according to the press release.

In April, STORServer expanded its own portfolio of infrastructure appliances with the introduction of the BA641-CV entry-level backup appliance and the EBA-EXPSM-CV Expansion System for customers looking to expand their storage capacities, both of which are also powered by CommVault technology.
