The cloud security gurus at Skyhigh Networks are upping the game for their cloud visibility and response platform by expanding beyond just blocking shadow IT applications into helping organizations control data usage within sanctioned cloud services.

Built on what it calls its Cloud API engine, the Security Intelligence Platform for Sanctioned Cloud Services will give customers the ability to detect and respond to security, compliance and data governance policy violation using a single platform across not just unsanctioned services, but also those like Salesforce (CRM), Box, Microsoft Office 365, ServiceNow, Jive, Workday, Google for Work and Dropbox for Business.

“With Skyhigh’s security intelligence capabilities, we can now monitor all activity in our sanctioned cloud services and gain actionable insights into high-risk behavior, all from a single integrated platform,” said David Levin, Director of Information Security at Western Union.

According to Skyhigh executives, as organizations increasingly turn to cloud services to help them transform business processes and product offerings, these sanctioned services are quickly becoming systems of record for critical business functions. The platform is designed to help companies better protect from compromised accounts and rogue insiders.

“The Skyhigh Security Intelligence Platform is designed specifically for security teams chartered to protect corporate data across both shadow and sanctioned cloud services,” said Rajiv Gupta, co-founder and CEO of Skyhigh Networks.

The platform looks for anomalies in user behavior, including contextual information about the application, data, action device and location, weaving that in with a  continuous view of sensitive data stored in cloud systems. Additionally, it takes a special look at privileged user activity, particularly in regard to escalation of privileges, and how third-party apps and third-party users connect to these sanctioned cloud services. That’s woven together with real-time alerts and SIEM and forensic capabilities to drive policy-driven remediation such as blocking, quarantining, and forcing encryption or two-factor authentication.

“Global organizations are empowering workforces of hundreds of thousands of employees to share information and make decisions with agility and speed,” said Justin Somaini, Chief Trust Officer at Box. “Moving content and collaboration to the cloud enables enterprises across industries and geographies to be more competitive and productive. Our partnership with Skyhigh ensures that these businesses can always meet the strictest data governance requirements.”
