Hybrid distributor ScanSource this week was hit with a ransomware attack that knocked some of its systems offline.

The Greenville, South Carolina-based company discovered the incident on May 14 and immediately launched an investigation and implemented its incident response plan.

Bleeping Computer said it was contacted starting on May 15 by ScanSource customers saying they no longer had access to the company’s customer portals and websites.

“ScanSource is actively managing the incident and is taking steps toward remediation,” ScanSource said. “The company is working closely with forensic and cybersecurity experts to investigate the extent of the incident, minimize disruption and mitigate the situation. ScanSource has notified law enforcement authorities.”

ScanSource isn’t commenting beyond its press release on the ransomware attack.

Ransomware Attack-Impacted Systems Remain Offline

“The security of its systems, as well as the impact on its employees, customers and suppliers is of utmost importance to ScanSource,” the distributor said. “The company is working diligently to bring affected systems back online, while also mitigating the impact on its business.”

ScanSource said it “regrets any inconvenience or delays in business this may cause customers and suppliers in North America and Brazil, and appreciates their patience.”

ScanSource said it’s working quickly to get its business fully operational. The distributor hasn’t disclosed whether it knows who’s behind the ransomware attack.
