Kaspersky Lab’s New North America Channel Chief Faces Heavy Lift
And you thought you had a tough job.
Kaspersky Lab this week named Jason Stein as vice president of channel, charged with growing the company’s partner community in North America.
Stein, a 20-year tech veteran, most recently worked as vice president of channel at data centers and telecom firm Tier 4 Advisors.
He assumes the role at a time when U.S. government officials are furiously curtailing use of Kaspersky Lab cyber security products by federal agencies, citing fears about the Moscow-based software vendor’s ties to Russian intelligence.
In recent weeks, state and local governments have begun raising similar questions and conducting reviews to determine whether to continue using Kaspersky tools.
It’ll be Stein’s job to convince managed service providers (MSPs) and other resellers that it still makes sense to partner with Kaspersky Lab North America.
“Kaspersky Lab is a trusted, well-known leader in the partner community, and the company’s robust portfolio of cybersecurity solutions are unmatched in the industry,” Stein said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to be joining such a channel-focused, channel-committed and channel-driven company, and I look forward to building on the region’s current momentum.”
Stein was not immediately available for a live interview and the statement announcing his appointment did not directly address how Kaspersky is communicating with partners about any concerns surrounding the public relations headwinds.
But in a separate email to MSPmentor, the security vendor suggested that its North America business remains strong.
“Kaspersky Lab continues to excel in North America, and our teams are continuing to work hard to support our partners and achieve our regional goals,” the company said.
The company also touted its unblemished, decades-long record as a trusted vendor.
“For 20 years, Kaspersky Lab has been committed to trust and transparency, as our valued partners know firsthand,” company officials said.
“The company has a history in the IT security industry of always abiding by the highest ethical business practices and trustworthy development of technologies,” the Kaspersky email continued. “These principles will never change, regardless of current geopolitical tensions or inaccurate representations.”
The company added that its commitment to the channel is unwavering: “Kaspersky Lab has always been dedicated to the channel and the company’s proven cybersecurity solutions and leading cyberthreat research will continue to drive the Kaspersky Lab’s success in North America.”
