Endpoint security provider Carbon Black has hired Thomas Hansen, previously with Dropbox and Microsoft, as chief revenue officer and executive vice president, charged with leading the company’s global sales, sales engineering, channel sales, customer success and customer services.

As Dropbox’s global vice president of revenue from 2015 to 2017, Hansen led the company’s growth with a global, multichannel, go-to-market strategy that helped it surpass $1 billion in annualized revenue run rate. He also worked at Microsoft from 2001 until 2015, and most recently served as its worldwide vice president of the SMB organization.

Hansen tells Channel Partners that Carbon Black is on a “solid trajectory” and his first six months will be about building on this momentum. Carbon Black is included on the 2017 Forbes Cloud 100 List.

“Namely, a focus on cloud, expanding our global footprint and ensuring our channel partners continue to thrive with Carbon Black,” he said. “Today, Carbon Black sells a majority of its product through partners. Unlike our competitors, we are careful to ensure as little channel friction as possible. My goal is to preserve and optimize this business model.”

Born, raised and educated in Denmark, Hansen also has lived in South Africa, Thailand and Turkey. He currently is based in Seattle.

“Carbon Black is a highly regarded security vendor and our challenge is to ensure that the company continues on a successful trajectory,” he said. “Specifically, IDC recently cited that Carbon Black led the market with a 37 percent share in the advanced threat segment.”

Carbon Black has more than 3,000 customers, including 30 of the Fortune 100.

“We’re excited to welcome Thomas to the Carbon Black team,” said Patrick Morley, Carbon Black’s president and CEO. “His extensive experience in managing and growing global teams will help Carbon Black accelerate our go-to-market strategy around the globe and guide our transition to becoming a leading cloud company.”

Carbon Black is red hot, sweeping up some $191 million in funding and publicly gunning for endpoint protection competitors like Cylance, Crowdstrike and SentinelOne.
