Dell Launches Data Protection And Encryption
Dell is pushing deeper into the data protection and encryption world. The latest move is called “Dell Data Protection | Encryption.” Designed to be a flexible and easily managed endpoint solution, Dell has high hopes for where it’ll play out in the real world. Dell’s channel partners should take note because “Protection | Encryption” is for more than Dell computers…
Dell has positioned their new “Protection | Encryption” (P/E) solution to comply with government mandates like Federal Information Process Standards (FIPS) validated encryption for laptops, desktops, tablets and other devices that support the endpoint software. Dell’s solution also focuses on regulations like HIPAA and Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards, the company claims.
For channel partners, the solution includes a centralized management suite. And the encryption solution can reach out to eSATA and USB thumb drives and even optical storage (though there are a few caveats with optical media). Dell also claims it can encrypt “select smartphones and non-Windows operating systems” via a relationship with CREDANT.
Dell hasn’t disclosed a specific price tag for P/E, but the company says P/E will be “an additional cost through volume licensing today” and their business-based dekstops and laptops will have it shipped pre-installed “soon.”
