Following the release of its employee cybersecurity report, CompTIA has launched a training course to help employees learn cybersecurity best practices.
The program, called CompTIA CyberSecure, is an online course consisting of learning modules that cover six basic learning objectives. Each module was designed with the help of CompTIA’s IT Security Group and include video, animation and interactive scenarios to teach users the ins and outs of proper security practices, both in and out of the office. The entire program can be completed in 60 minutes, according to CompTIA.
“Business is conducted at any time, from anywhere, over PCs, laptops, tablets, smartphones and smartwatches,” said Kelly Ricker, senior vice president of Events and Education at CompTIA, in a statement. “The CyberSecure training regimen educates workers on the actions they should take to assure they are communicating and connecting securely in any setting.”
Each module can be tackled at the viewer’s own pace, with lessons designed to educate all members of the organization, from receptionists to CEOs, according to the announcement. Modules are broken down into the following topics:
- Protecting yourself and your company from information leaks
- Basic categories of information security threats
- Cultivating a safe information mindset
- Cultivating a safe environment
- Implementing safety strategies online
- Protecting data and networks
As outlined in Intermedia’s 2015 Insider Risk Report, employees with the greatest access to company data are the ones most likely to put sensitive files at risk. With this in mind, CompTIA is advocating thorough employee security training over using advanced security solutions and policies as the No. 1 method of preventing data loss.
“Employees are the first line of defense in an organization’s cybersecurity perimeter, but we can’t expect them to act securely if we don’t provide them with the proper training,” said Todd Thibodeaux, president and CEO of CompTIA.
CompTIA CyberSecure is currently available in the United States (even non-CompTIA members), with the organization planning to release more information about international availability in the next several weeks, according to Ricker.
