Absolute Software (ABT) today unveiled Event Calling, a new alerting feature for its cloud security service.

Vancouver, Canada-based endpoint management and security provider Absolute Software today unveiled Event Calling, a new alerting feature for its cloud security service.

The alerting feature delivers “a proactive response to potential data breaches and security incidents,” according to Absolute.

Event Calling is included in the Absolute Computrace cloud security service and allows customers to receive immediate alerts if an event they consider to be significant occurs.

“[This feature] provides our customers with a policy-based approach to regulatory compliance, risk management and enterprise security. By prioritizing the alerting capabilities of Computrace, customers can focus immediate attention on the endpoint conditions they care about most,” Absolute CEO Geoff Haydon said in a prepared statement.

Absolute said its customers can create custom alert triggers and tailor their security protocols to address the unique needs of their businesses.

Event Calling is compliant with various data security regulations, including:

  • Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act

  • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)

  • Sarbanes-Oxley Act

“If a healthcare organization is alerted that a hospital device has left the property, IT has the ability to respond quickly to freeze the device and ensure no patient or other sensitive information is breached,” Haydon added. “Many of our customers rely on these workflows to prove compliance with corporate and government regulations.”

Why do companies want instant security alerts?

Data breaches, hackers and viruses are three of the cybersecurity threats that affect companies worldwide.

Instant security alerts, however, can help mitigate cybersecurity risks and prevent cyber attacks.

The increase in the number of attacks that are taking place in both cloud and on-premises environments is leading many companies to invest in data security solutions that deliver real-time notifications.

Alert Logic‘s Spring 2014 Cloud Security Report, released in April, showed there was a significant increase in attacks across cloud and hosting environments last year.

A March 2014 PerspecSys survey of 130 IT security professionals also revealed the majority of respondents said they still view the cloud as more difficult to secure than on-premise options.

Stephen Coty, Alert Logic’s chief security evangelist, noted “enterprise-grade security solutions” are quickly becoming popular choices for companies that want cloud-based data protection.

“As more enterprise workloads have moved into cloud and hosted infrastructures, some traditional on-premises threats have followed them,” Coty said in a prepared statement. “This reinforces the necessity for enterprise-grade security solutions specifically designed to protect cloud environments.”
