Zayo Completes Arialink Acquisition

Zayo Group on Tuesday announced completing its acquisition of Michigan-based Arialink under a deal that adds 930 route miles to its network.

Thanks to the acquisition, Zayo will provide Ethernet, dark fiber and optical transport services across a 437 on-net building footprint in Michigan. Zayo said the agreement also provides it with a regional long-haul network and connectivity to smaller markets in central Michigan.

This acquisition will expand the reach of our network services to new markets in Michigan that will be valuable to Zayos current customers as well as enable national services for customers in Michigan,” Zayo Group President and CEO Dan Caruso said in a statement.

The $18 million deal excluded assets and customers related to Arialink’s residential business, which was spun out to the company’s previous owners and will operate under the name Spectrum.

Zayo noted that Arialink recently began construction of a 190-mile network to interconnect health-care facilities as part of a Federal Communications Commission grant to the Michigan Public Health Institute. The project supports connectivity to healthcare facilities in rural Michigan and expansion of broadband services to underserved communities.
