Time Warner Cable To Launch Wi-Fi Network in L.A.

Time Warner Cable is pumping $15 million into a new Wi-Fi network in the Los Angeles area that all TWC high-speed data customers will be able to access for free. The New York City-based cable giant also plans to offer a pay-as-you-go, fee-based service to non-customers and visitors to L.A.

This is the largest Wi-Fi deployment to date for Time Warner. It will reach more than 40 square miles of Southern California, including Venice Beach, West Hollywood, Downtown L.A., Santa Ana, Newport Beach and other cities within Orange County.

You can search for TWCs cable Wi-Fi network on your mobile device its titled TWCWiFi. The cablecos customers will be given a simple sign-on process using their Road Runner address and password

“Through TWC WiFi, with our one-time authentication process, Time Warner Cable customers, whether local or visiting, will be able to quickly connect to the Internet for no additional cost from their tablet, iPad, mobile phone or laptop, wherever they are ” said John Keib, president, Residential Services, for Time Warner Cable’s West Region. There is no searching for a network: The device recognizes the TWC WiFi network as a default setting and connects. And with accelerated Wideband 50 at home, customers can access the Internet at the fastest speeds we’ve ever offered.”

Time Warner Cable has expanded its Wideband 50 Internet service a high-speed data service for the home that allows customers to connect to the Internet with speeds of up to 50Mbps as a complement to the new Wi-Fi service. TWCs Wideband offerings are available to almost half of homes in Southern California, with expansion to all by the end of next year.
