PRODUCT SHOWCASE: POWER OVER ETHERNET

POWERDSINE

PowerDsine has created a 48-port PoE midspan designed for large VoIP systems.

PowerDsines 24-port 6024G model of the companys new line of Power over Gigabit Ethernet Midspans is the first to ship.

PowerDsine Ltd. this year so far introduced a new line of midspans for Gigabit Ethernet and launched the first 48- port midspan for VoIP networks.

The 6000G PoE Midspan family, which includes the 24-port 6024G model, delivers power over standard Ethernet cabling to 10/100mbps and emerging Gigabit (1,000mbps) network devices, such as VoIP phones, WLAN access points and IP network video cameras. When connected to a central Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), the scalable 6000G models distribute power remotely and keep the network running if the electricity fails.

PowerDsine also released the 6548 PoE Midspan, part of the 6000 Midspan family. This device features 48 ports and saves rack space for companies deploying large-scale VoIP systems. Compliant with the IEEE 802.3af PoE standard, it also lets businesses incorporate PoE without replacing existing Ethernet switches.

For large VoIP phone installations, PowerDsine says the 48-port PoE Midspan saves the cost of installing separate power cabling and AC outlets, and also eliminates the need for a dedicated UPS for individual devices. One UPS will provide enough battery backup power for an entire IP telephony system in case the power goes out, PowerDsine says.

The 48-port midspan also has an advanced remote management version so IT administrators can remotely monitor the PoE Midspan over a LAN, using a Web browser.

ADTRAN

The NetVanta 1524ST has 24 10/100/1000Base-T ports with four combination SFP/1000Base-T Gigabit Ethernet ports for interconnecting LAN switches using copper or fiber.

The NetVanta 1224R midspan combines several functionalities, including an IP access router with a modular WAN interface, and optional VPN and dial backup capabilities.

ADTRAN’s NetVanta 1224STR PoE midspan adds Gigabit ports so companies don’t need to install multiple network devices.

ADTRAN Inc. makes network access equipment and has released its all-in-one integrated PoE switch routers and added standards-based (802.3af) PoE functionality to its line of Ethernet switches.

The company earlier this year also unveiled the NetVanta 1524ST, the first in a series of stackable Layer 2 Gigabit Ethernet switches for deployment at the network edge. It works especially well for health care, education, retail or SMB customers transitioning to Gigabit LANs or Gigabit-to-the-desktop applications.

First, though, the NetVanta 1000 Series switch routers combine a 24- port managed Ethernet switch, an IP access router with a modular WAN interface, a stateful inspection firewall, and optional VPN and dial backup capabilities.

The NetVanta 1224R and 1224R PoE combine those functionalities into one 1U rackmount platform. For high-speed server access, uplink or stacking requirements, the NetVanta 1224STR and NetVanta 1224STR PoE add Gigabit Ethernet ports, eliminating the need for multiple network devices.

Meanwhile, the new NetVanta 1224R PoE and NetVanta 1224STR PoE switch routers, and the NetVanta 1224 PoE and NetVanta 1224ST PoE Ethernet switches, simplify network planing by fully powering all 24 ports, up to 15.4 watts per port (the maximum power allowed), according to ADTRAN.

The company equips its NetVanta PoE products with a specialized SIP Application Layer Gateway (ALG) that ensures delivery of VoIP calls across SIP-based phones, IP PBXs and other desperate devices in the network without disabling firewalls or compromising network security. All of the all NetVanta switches and switch routers use the ADTRAN Operating System (OS).

The NetVanta 1524ST, which also runs on ADTRAN’s OS, provides wirespeed switching, quality of service stacking and link aggregation, as well as advanced management and security features. It has 24 10/100/1000Base-T ports with four combination SFP/1000Base-T Gigabit Ethernet ports for interconnecting LAN switches using copper or fiber.

The device offers Link Layer Discovery Protocol in compliance with the new 802.1ab standard, which allows the NetVanta 1524ST to auto-discover neighboring Ethernet devices.
