PAETEC Tapped to Support Health Care Network
PAETEC Holding Corp., the telecommunications provider that will soon become a part of Windstream Corp., on Tuesday announced an agreement to provide the Rural Area Health Education Center with a high-speed IP network for the Western New York Rural Broadband Healthcare Network.
The work is part of a five-year contract worth $6 million that will support 38 facilities with advanced Internet and MPLS-based VPN over PAETEC’s fiber-optic network, the Fairport, N.Y.-based company said.
When it is fully implemented, the Western New York Rural Broadband Healthcare Network will support advanced health-care services such as imaging, telemedicine and electronic medical records.
The business-oriented PAETEC is being acquired by Little Rock, Ark.-based Windstream, and the deal is expected to close in a few days.
