GENBAND On Verge of Buying Smaller Supplier Cedar Point?

Theres no comment from the two parties involved, but it looks as though GENBAND is on the verge of buying smaller rival Cedar Point Communications.

The report comes from Multichannel News and cites industry sources. There was no word on the approximate value of such a deal.

IP gear-maker GENBAND, which last year bought bankrupt Nortels Carrier VoIP unit, would benefit mostly from Cedar Points cable operator accounts. Cedar Point has been losing sales over the past few years but maintains customers in Comcast, Charter Communications, Insight Communications, Liberty Global and Mexicos Cablemás, according to reports. Buying Cedar Point would give GENBAND more strength to combat Cisco Systems Inc. and other competitors in the cable space, sources told Multichannel.

A GENBAND takeover of Cedar Point isnt far-fetched. JP Morgan, the bank that paid for GENBANDs Nortel Carrier VoIP acquisition, also owns a stake in Cedar Point.

Cedar Point employs about 200 people.
