webOS Coming To HP Netbooks? More Likely Than You Think
We already know that February 9th 2011 will be a big HP webOS day. But here’s the twist: Most people think HP will position WebOS — acquired in the Palm buyout — for tablet computers vs. Apple iPad. But there are strong signs HP will also promote webOS on netbooks. Indeed, leaked pictures from HP “webOS 101” training videos have surfaced and it looks like webOS might be coming to a netbook near you…
Back in July 2010, I noted some interesting language on an HP press release that alluded to HP possibly including webOS on netbooks. It was an interesting idea, but I tried not get too hyped up on marketing speak. Now, PreCentral.net says HP has created a “webOS Central” training portal for cell phone carriers. And webOS Central has a whole teaser section for the webOS netbook effort.
Why can’t I do all that [webOS] stuff on my PC?
Maybe you will. That’s the big idea.
If I could run webOS on my phone and a slate and a netbook…
And they all talked to each other and shared information.
Yes, that’s the sound of the speculation engine starting up. How’d you know? Here’s what I think we may see in the very near future: HP churning out inexpensive netbooks that run webOS, positioned against forthcoming Google Chrome OS netbooks. I think they’ll compete well, too, since webOS has a lot more pizazz and pop than boring old Google Chrome.
I’m anticipating some kind of tease at HP’s February 9th event that includes hints about a netbook, or at the very least, a slate with a Bluetooth keyboard that proves the webOS netbook paradigm works.
