Solution providers, take notice. If you were late the mobile device management, integration and support game, don’t make the same mistake with wearable devices. While the idea and even some of the technology behind wearable computing has been around for years, this past year it has made a breakthrough and there is no looking back on the plow.
Like anything else in the high-tech space, just follow the money. Software always leads hardware development, which leads technology implementations and opportunities for solution providers. The amount of applications developed for wearables is increasing tremendously. The apps drive consumer consumption and consumer consumption will drive enterprise adoption. Enterprise adoption will drive services.
Forrester recently came out with a report that said the stage is now set for enterprise adoption, as wearables will empower both physical and virtual work scenarios. Further, this is just the tip of the iceberg, according to Forrester. The wearable market will continue to evolve and grow, creating enormous business potential for more than a decade.
On the consumer side, the highest growth area for wearables is in the health and fitness area. In fact, ABI Research estimates that the global market for wearables in health and fitness could hit $170 billion devices by 2017. Look for further penetration into the medical market, banking, education and even entertainment, including gaming.
That’s why some of the biggest tech companies in the world are throwing their weight behind this movement including Google, Microsoft and Apple. And if tech history is any indication, this type of commitment by these companies is only going to increase more development.
Much like mobile devices, battery power, design, computing power, application development and, let’s not forget, style are all contributing to make the wearable market the next great frontier. As a solution provider, it’s decision time: Are you going to get in front of this or watch it pass you by?
Knock ’em alive!
