Top MSP Heads to Legal Conference
The latest evidence that managed service providers are going vertical: MindSHIFT, ranked No. 1 in our most recent MSPmentor 100 report, will descend on the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) 2009 Conference, August 23 near Washington, D.C. Here’s why.
During a mindSHIFT visit in Aug. 14, company executives shared with me their current and long-term business strategies. I’ll be recapping my mindSHIFT visit in a few blog posts this week.
Through organic growth and acquisitions, mindSHIFT has emerged as a national MSP that also extends globally through SaaS (software as a service). The company’s sweet spot typically involves customers with 2o to 400 seats or so.
mindSHIFT focuses on several vertical markets — with an increasing emphasis on the legal vertical. Hence the company’s decision to attend the ILTA 2009 Conference.
The conference will cover some familiar themes: server and desktop virtualization, remote administration, privacy issues, etc. And it’s easy to spot several mindSHIFT speakers on the agenda.
Therein is my key point: It’s important for MSPs to learn from each other at conferences. But the smartest MSPs also find the time and budget to participate in customer-facing conferences, where small business owners and managers seek technology knowledge they can’t find elsewhere.
I’ll share more about mindSHIFT’s overall business strategy later this week.

ILTA is an excellent event. We’ve exhibited there for the last nine years and have been a Platinum sponsor for the last two. On the subject of verticals – We are also exhibiting at the ASAE Annual Meeting, which is a key event for associations. The meeting started Saturday Aug. 15 and runs through tomorrow (Tues. Aug. 18) in Toronto.
