Software Partners Prep for Google I/O
The Google I/O developer conference kicks off May 19 in San Francisco. It’s the search giant’s big chance to show how mature their cloud platform is, and to prove it, Google has recruited a who’s who of ISVs large and small to show off what they bring to the house that Google built at the Developer Sandbox. Here’s a quick overview of the projects that will likely catch our attention.
Among the efforts worth watching…
- Novell is demonstrating Google Wave federation across their Pulse platform, meaning that messages can be edited across both platforms in real-time, enhancing both companies’ enterprise play in the new frontier of collaborative messaging.
- Spanning is showing off a solution to sync Google Apps contacts and calendars with the Apple OS X native apps — a huge boon to to Mac zombies on The VAR Guy’s staff.
- EchoSign has an e-signature solution allowing for digital signing of Google documents.
Rise of SaaS Partners
And many, many more. The full and exhaustive list is here, but the important takeaway is that Google has a loyal base of developers building applications that extend the Google Apps platform in all kinds of directions — from movie ticket purchasing on mobile OS Gogle Android by way of Fandango to Google Buzz integration with SaaS instant messaging client Meebo. And that’s not even touching the enterprise applications.
If Google wants to prove that they’ve built up a ton of ISV momentum and confidence, the Developer Sandbox list accomplishes that admirably. The VAR Guy will be watching Google I/O with great interest, so stay tuned.
