Enterprise software giant SAP (SAP) has unwrapped three new business applications for the Internet of Things (IoT), which the company said will leverage the capabilities of its core application and development HANA cloud platform, including in-memory computing, predictive analytics and complex event processing.
The new solutions include the SAP Predictive Maintenance and Service solution, SAP Connected Logistics software and the SAP Manufacturing Execution application. SAP also said it has added some 500 dedicated developers to support its various IoT initiatives.
”The Internet of Things has the potential to dramatically improve responsiveness of businesses, reimagine customer experience and open up new opportunities and brand new business models such as move from sell-to-service based models,” said Bernd Leukert, SAP Products & Innovation executive board member.
“SAP customers that have already implemented Internet of Things solutions have seen considerable improvement in asset utilization and higher business process efficiency and helped address operational costs,” he said.
Here’s a brief on each solution:
SAP Predictive Maintenance and Service integrates operations and analytics on a single platform. It’s intended to help optimize the value of business and technical data and information from unstructured documents with the goal of foreseeing a process malfunction before it occurs.
SAP Connected Logistics enables logistics hub operators to monitor traffic toward and within a hub and facilitate communication between involved parties. Ultimately, the software will offer integration to backend transportation management systems and lean dispatching capabilities for logistics service providers that lack a sophisticated back-end solution.
Connected Manufacturing solution aims to integrate manufacturing results with real-time feeds into the SAP HANA platform. In that way, companies can leverage the cloud to orchestrate and optimize their global operations and use predictive analytics to lower costs and use their assets better. The latest release, Manufacturing Execution version 15.0, includes support for SAP HANA, enhanced user experience, extended mobility and end-to-end enterprise integration for deeper manufacturing transparency.
