Microsoft (MSFT) will show off the mobile version of its Windows 10 operating system at a January 21, 2015 event at company headquarters in Redmond, WA, according to a ZDNet report.

The company is billing the showcase, to which media invitations were extended last week, as a one-day reveal of the Windows 10 “consumer experience.” Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella, Operating Systems Group executive vice president Terry Myerson, Windows Phone honcho Joe Belfiore and Xbox boss Phil Spencer will speak at the event, which will be streamed live, ZDNet reported.

Microsoft has confirmed the proceedings will concentrate on the “Windows 10 consumer experience,” the report said.

The new report adds to earlier chatter that the late January event will add to Microsoft’s presentation at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas Jan. 6-9 detailing the consumer preview of its next-generation operating system, including the new Continuum touch interface.

No concrete word has emerged about exactly what Windows 10 features Microsoft will be showing off publicly at the event but the buzz says it will debut the combined Windows Phone/Windows RT Windows 10 mobile edition working on both Intel (INTC) and ARM tablets and on Windows Phone-based models.

The Redmond event won’t be confined solely to Windows 10’s consumer side. Microsoft also will unwrap the latest of its Windows 10 Technical Previews, available to its cadre of testers, the report said. The coming version is expected to include support for the Contiuum feature that allows hybrid laptop tablet device users to transition from modes and possibly the Cortana voice assistant as well.

In November, Microsoft rolled out the 9879 build of Windows 10 Technical Preview, the last major update for the year available to Windows Insider Program participants, according to Gabe Aul, Microsoft Operating Systems Group Data & Fundamentals Team lead.

Aul said at the time that “this will be the last new build of the year for Windows Insiders,” adding the vendor will “have something new to share with you early in 2015.”

Microsoft has kept the smaller patching coming, releasing on Dec. 2 a new fix for the 9879 public build intended to address “frequent Explorer crashes,” Aul said in a Twitter post. The patch fixed the large number of Explorer.exe crashes occurring after users upgrade either to Windows Server Technical Preview or Windows 10 Technical Preview.
