OSCON vs. LinuxWorld Expo: Which Should I Attend?
The VAR Guy is trying his best to attend both OSCON (July 21-25, Portland, Oregon) and LinuxWorld Expo (August 4-7, San Francisco). In particular, he wants to learn more about the emerging Ubuntu Linux community. But if he only had the time and money to attend one of the events, which should it be?
OSCON is compelling to our resident blogger, because Canonical Founder Mark Shuttleworth is set to keynote the event, and OSCON has been a gathering place for the growing Ubuntu Linux community. Colleges around Oregon have been known to send their top IT managers and professors, who describe how Ubuntu is finding its way into IT infrastructure as well as classroom curriculum.
Still, LinuxWorld Expo will have plenty of Ubuntu-driven activity as well. One of the key pieces of the event is Ubucon, scheduled August 7. Ubucon is a community driven, community organized event that is all about Ubuntu Linux.
The VAR Guy has quit his daily designer coffee habit, and hopes to save enough money to attend both events. But if he had to select only one, which should it be?
